Our Outlook

Our Structural Curiosity

We started with one question: how does a small joint decide the size of a sheltered space? This site is our long answer.

Why we write

An independent study desk

Pavilionsortbambo is an independent learning resource for architecture enthusiasts, students and early-stage designers. We are not a supplier, contractor or certification body, and we do not sell bamboo, plans or services. That independence lets us describe trade-offs plainly, including where bamboo is not the right answer.

Our writing draws on published standards such as ISO 22156, ISO 22157 and ISO 19624, research from INBAR, books such as Oscar Hidalgo-López's Bamboo: The Gift of the Gods, and the documented work of architects and builders including Simón Vélez, Jörg Stamm, IBUKU and Vo Trong Nghia.

How we work

Three principles

Concept is not construction

We explain principles and reasoning. We never publish details as construction-ready, and we flag where engineering judgement is required.

Evidence over enthusiasm

We avoid sustainability claims we cannot support and describe how outcomes depend on sourcing, treatment and service life.

Corrections welcome

If you spot an error or have field experience to share, write to us. We update pages and note significant revisions.

Where to go next

Begin with how culms are chosen, then follow the material into joints, spaces and its full lifecycle.
